In the past few years our Outreach program achieved significant success in organising Rugby Camps at diverse locations across the country. We are delighted to announce that Sedbergh Courses, in collaboration with a team of outstanding lead coaches, is once again coming together to offer an exciting series of two-day Rugby Camps during the upcoming February half-term.

The Rugby Camps are scheduled to be held at Lymm, Tynedale, West Park Leeds, Keighley, Chester and Macclesfield Rugby Clubs. Our coaching dream team comprises Russell Earnshaw former Bath & England International and John Fletcher, current head of Player Pathway for the Scottish Rugby Union. They will be assisted by a team of support coaches.

The core curriculum for these camps will be centred on the enhancement of contact skills, tactical awareness (#BeatTheGame), and overall skill development. Our coaches will meticulously follow the guidelines set by the RFU, with a specific focus on refining technical skills and fostering tactical acumen. Each day's activities will be divided into four quarters, encompassing a diverse array of games and dedicated skill zones, providing children with a sturdy foundation for their future endeavours.

If you have any questions, please contact simon.verbickas@sedberghschool.org for further information.

Rusty

RUSSELL EARNSHAW

As a player Russell won the Heineken Cup with Bath and played for England on the IRB Sevens circuit, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, and was part of the squad that played in the IRB World Series tournaments from 1999 to 200. Then as the assistant coach for England 7s he won back to back Dubai titles, Twickenham 7s and England's first ever victory at the Wellington 7s. He then worked alongside John for the England Rugby Elite Development Pathway.

Fletch Cropped

John Fletcher

John Fletcher is the current Head of Player Pathway and Coach Development for the Scottish Rugby Union. He started out as Head Coach of the Newcastle Falcons Academy being promoted to Senior Director of Rugby. He was soon head hunted for a role with the RFU as Head Coach of the England U18 team with the clear brief to prepare players to win the World Cup.  John has been instrumental in developing high performing young players such as Anthony Watson, Owen Farrell, George Ford, Maro Itoje and the Vunipola brothers.

Will Cliff Cropped

will cliff

Throughout Will's 16 year professional rugby career as a scrum half he had over 200 appearances for Sale Sharks, Bristol Bears and Yorkshire Carnegie. He promises to bring bags of energy, smiles, and positivity to the Sedbergh Rugby Camps and to  "help each individual improve and love the sport that little bit more. Will said "I remember watching my childhood team, Sale Sharks, with my father at Edgley Park and I always dreamt of pulling the shirt on one day for real. Children need inspiration and guidance to give them the ultimate experience at whatever level within our great sport."

tom mitchell

Tom Mitchell has had a 10 year career at the top level of international 7s rugby. After graduating from Bristol University (BA English & Philosophy) he went to Oxford University for his postgraduate studies. Immediately after getting his Blue he was picked by England 7s to make his World Series debut in 2012. Since then he has served the team as captain for 6 years and also led Team GB 7s to two Olympic Games. In Rio in 2016 Tom and the team came home with a silver medal, the first Olympic medal in the sport for Great Britain. Tom’s 7s rugby career also included two Commonwealth Games appearances, including a bronze medal in 2018. And three Rugby 7s World Cup appearances. The time has come for Tom to move onto new career paths as he steps away from playing professionally. He is exploring a range of roles including media work in 7s, writing, and performance mentoring and coaching, the last of which really indulge his passion for helping people occupy all of their space in the world.

"The experience I saw “my” players having today was exceptional! I came home with a smile on my face a mile wide! Coaching how it should be done, players engaged and smiling, not a raised voice but a culture of fun to get the best from the guys! The fact that every child had a voice and a valid opinion is testament to the mutual respect from players and coaches. Players were encouraged to have input whilst the coaches encouraged even the meekest to pipe up with their thoughts. A fabulous example of youth coaching from the very top draw. Your team is of the highest caliber and I think it was a privilege for Bowdon to host you."

"My son thoroughly enjoyed his two days with you, he has been to many rugby camps in the past but said that this one was the best by far! He loved all the different activities and games and thought the coaches were brilliant. He said that his legs need a rest today but that he'd do the camp all over again tomorrow if he could, he had such a fantastic time."
