STEMFirst is an Educational Consultancy set up by Helen Heggie who after undertaking a mechanical engineering degree at Cambridge University became Advanced Technology Programme Manager for Ford Motor Company, and gained Chartered Engineer status with the IMechE.

STEMFirst has held the Government funded, STEM Ambassador Programme, contract for Lancashire and Cumbria since 2011 and recruits, trains and deploys 1800 STEM Ambassador volunteers across the North West. Their hub is seen as one of the most effective Hubs in the UK, and annually wins awards at the House of Lords STEM Awards for excellence and outreach. Helen was also awarded the prestigious Women In Science and Engineering, (WISE) Award in 2012 by HRH Princess Anne, for her work as a STEM Advisor and promoting engineering to young women and girls.

The course will be based in our Prep School's dedicated design workshop which includes a robotics workshop, laser cutter, additive 3D printer and manufacturing equipment, as well as a dedicated CAD/Cam suite. Students will combine hands-on manufacturing with cutting edge 3D printing and laser cutting to create working models and prototypes. It is an opportunity for students to work collaboratively on fun and exciting projects whilst developing strategic problem-solving skills.

We also now offer a residential option for 8-11 year olds with a comprehensive evening programme to further enhance this wonderful experience. This unique opportunity will allow children to taste the full boarding experience under the care of a devoted pastoral team second to none. Children will be residential at our Sedbergh Prep site in Casterton for the Easter date, 6-9 April, and will stay at our Sedbergh School site during the summer, 20-23 July.
