Gary started coaching Hockey in 2002, initially coaching both junior and senior club sections, before specialising in junior development. In 2014 he became a Coach developer for GB Hockey where he joined a team responsible for the development of coaches across schools, clubs and the player pathway.
Children can expect a fun, engaging and thought provoking camp where they will be provided a learning environment that allows them to express themselves, develop new skills and become more confident in making effective decisions within a game like situation.
In 2015 Gary started coaching in the England Hockey Junior Player Pathway and became Head Coach within the Player Pathway in 2018. In 2019 he graduated from the GB Advance Coaching Programme. A two-year course designed to stretch and develop coaches within their chosen field with the ultimate aspiration of developing more, better and happier players.
A message from Gary
“I am looking forward to meeting coaches and children wanting to develop and learn together. I Can’t wait to see what they will bring to the pitch and how much fun we can have. “
What has been your greatest achievement as an athlete?
"I have been lucky across the years to have had the support to enable me to participate in both Athletics and Hockey. Within hockey I captained my local club for 15 seasons and didn’t miss a single game, including friendlies, league, or cup matches amassing over 500 games."
What has been the highlight of your coaching career?
"My biggest achievement was completing the GB Hockey ACP programme, this really challenged my thinking on how to provide the right environment for all to develop and allowed me to visit many other fantastic coaching environments to share ideas and take some golden nuggets away for my own coaching, which has benefitted all."
