What did the junior rugby experience of the stars of the France 2023 Rugby World Cup look like? It is a good place to start when we plan to inspire and develop the next generation of talent that joins us for the Sedbergh Rugby experience.

Our intention is to allow your child a challenging and safe environment to:

  • Develop Leadership skills like Siya Kolisi #GOLD
  • Practice the Manie Libbok no look kick pass
  • Work on contact skills to be as effective as Ardie Savea and Ben Earl
  • Become a triple threat attacker like Antoine Dupont – Run / Kick / Pass
  • Tackle like the Argentinian beast Marcos Kremer
  • Have an opportunity to develop their lines of running and kicking skills like Will Jordan

Our mission is to develop and inspire every single child in our care whatever their ability and to provide an experience they never could have imagined. Developing talent that one day could win their country a World Cup was the brief for a major part of Rusty and Fetch’s careers. The group of players currently involved in and around the England squad now all speak very highly of the influence the Magic Academy boys had on their career developments.

As Fletch and Rusty did with many young internationals through the Junior England Development Programme, they will manufacture a bespoke experience to support and develop all individuals.

john Fletcher

John Fletcher is the current Head of Player Pathway and Coach Development for the Scottish Rugby Union. He started out as Head Coach of the Newcastle Falcons Academy being promoted to Senior Director of Rugby. He was soon head hunted for a role with the RFU as Head Coach of the England U18 team with the clear brief to prepare players to win the World Cup.  John has been instrumental in developing high performing young players such as Anthony Watson, Owen Farrell, George Ford, Maro Itoje and the Vunipola brothers.

Russell earnshaw

As a player Russell won the Heineken Cup with Bath and played for England on the IRB Sevens circuit, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, and was part of the squad that played in the IRB World Series tournaments from 1999 to 200. Then as the assistant coach for England 7s he won back-to-back Dubai titles, Twickenham 7s and England's first ever victory at the Wellington 7s. He then worked alongside John for the England Rugby Elite Development Pathway.

  • Allows the coach to better control the team

  • Allows coaches to teach children their personal strengths and improve their weaknesses

  • Creates a positive learning environment for learning without rigorous peer review
