Learning to love Athletics is inseparable from working to improve performances. Determination and laughter combine to create a wonderful atmosphere for learning.
All Athletic events are covered. Dean’s unrivalled technical knowledge, coupled with his breathtaking demonstrations inspire extraordinary progress and regular personal bests. In addition, the athletic foundations of running, jumping and throwing, which are at the heart of all sports, are developed alongside determination and application.
Dean Macey was an international decathlete for more than a decade. His first major triumph was a silver medal at the 1999 World Championships, which helped win him the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award. He went on to win Gold in the Commonwealth Games decathlon, two World Championship medals, came fourth in two Olympic Games, and has a personal best of 8603 points.
“Nobody improves performance if they don’t enjoy what they are doing. Four days in the amazing environment of Sedbergh School allows plenty of scope for both. Athletes work hard to improve their performances and their confidence, but meet new friends and learn that practising hard can be fun in itself. That’s a great lesson for life, and a recipe for improvement in anything”
“I just wanted to let the organisers of the summer activity courses know, that my Son really enjoyed the athletics course last week, he has been showing us all the warm up drills and stretches he learnt, and has not stopped talking about it since last week. He enjoyed it that much, that he even had a few tears in his eyes at the end of the course, because he didn’t want it to end.”
